Oldbury get on their bikes
It was good to see two more of our young Swimmers/Triathletes
stepping up from Aquathlons
(swim+run) to Triathlons (swim+cycle+run). After wave starts for
our last two events it was back to
one minute interval starts.
Oliver Mitchell-Hewitt (TS1 9/10yr) was out first
for Oldbury at 12.27pm. Oliver produced an excellent
swim (3rd fastest), a very quick transition and out onto the cycle
on his very nice new racing bicycle.
He looked very quick and produced a credible time to finish with
the 8th fastest cycle time. Another
quick transition and a fast start to the run discipline, here
he tiered a little but still finished with a great
sprint across the finishing line to collect his finishers glass
prism award (10th fastest run) and take 7th place.
Swim 2.28 (3rd) Cycle 9.32 (8th ) Run 6.55 (10th)
7th overall. Finishing in 18.55 minutes
Next out for Oldbury was Brad Simkin (TS2 11/12yr),
also on his new bicycle. A very fast swim time
(3rd fastest), good transition one time and after an initial slow
start to the cycle discipline; he dug
in hard to produce a good time (9th fastest cycle time). Another
good transition and a fast start to the run,
like Oliver the pace slowed but he also finished with a sprint
to the finish line to collect his finisher’s
glass prism award (16th fastest run) and take11th place.
Swim 3.33 (3rd) Cycle 13.59 (9th ) Run 10.09 (16th)
11th overall. Finishing in 27.41 minutes
Next out for Oldbury was Joe Deakin (TS2 11/12yr).
He was fortunate to be the last of the TS2 age group,
with the person we expected to be his main challenger having gone
out just 1 minute before.
Having produced the fastest swim he arrived at transition 30 seconds
behind the person in front.
A slow transition time was quickly recovered by easily the fastest
cycle time and a very fast transition 2.
With a lead of almost 3 minutes over the expected main challenger
he dug in deep to produce a strong
steady run, (8th fastest run) to collect his finisher’s
glass prism award and take the 1st place trophy.
He won by almost 1 minute, the expected main opposition finished
5th.
Swim 2.57 (1st) Cycle 10.55 (1st) Run 8.44 (8th) 1st
overall. Finishing in 36.48 minutes
Last out from Oldbury was Thomas Acha (TS3 13/14yr).
A steady swim (11th fastest) was followed by
a good transition. A very slow bicycle mount was soon turned into
the 3rd fastest cycle time.
This excellent cycle discipline moved him well up the order, a
good run time (8th fastest) and he
crossed the finish line to collect his well earned finishers glass
prism award and take 7th place.
Swim 4.33 (8th) Cycle 20.02 (8th) Run 12.13 (8th)
7th overall. Finishing in 22.36 minutes
